Ritual is a high-precision sans with a confident voice. Its DNA fuses elements from two different facets of the Swiss-German tradition: the neo-grotesk and the geometric sans serif.

One of Ritual’s defining features is its horizontal terminals, a trait that’s characteristic for the rationalized grotesks associated with mid-20th century modernism. The lowercase ‘a’ with the tear-shaped counter is another detail that Ritual has in common with the genre’s classics like Helvetica/Neue Haas Grotesk. This lineage is infused with a different approach featuring more architectural elements. The constructivist angle becomes evident in the almost circular shapes of round letters, and is also visible in the straightforward diagonals (see R, Q, y, 1). The latter are a nod to Neuzeit S, a revision of an earlier geometric sans, optimized in the 1960s for the use in corporate design. So are the round dots in diacritical and punctuation marks, which help to establish a contemporary and approachable impression. Ritual is distinguished by its clear-cut shapes and a fine-tuned balance of black and white.

The Ritual family spans nine weights from Thin to Black, in upright and italic styles. The character set offers broad support for Latin-based languages, arrows and other symbols, as well as proportional lining, tabular lining, and fraction figures. A special feature are the circled numbers in positive and negative variants. Trial versions for testing purposes in layout applications are available on request. Ritual is also available in the variable font format. The variable font, which contains a weight and an italic axis, is included when licensing the complete Ritual family. The font file stores all static weights as instances and allows the user to select intermediate weights. Variable fonts are supported by modern web browsers as well as design applications like Adobe Indesign or Illustrator.
